Mission

To continue preservation of The Seminole Theatre as an architectural treasure of our Historic Downtown Homestead, and to promote the Theatre as the community's cultural center for many years to come - to provide support for community programming, educational opportunities, and related events to build upon the Theatre's impact and service to our culturally diverse community.

Since re-opening the Seminole Theatre less than 2 years ago, the Friends have accomplished:
-Installing and maintaining "Artist in the Spotlight" program to display local visual artists
-Subsidize tickets for over 400 at-need young people and their families.
-Launched a community theatre company and presented "Hairspray"

Plans

Future plans for the Friends include:
-Expanding community theatre into resident group "Seminole Theatre Players" and presenting a regular mainstage season-Launching youth theater program to present bi-annual productions
-Providing scholarships for summer musical theater camps
-Growing ticket subsidies to bring 1,000 persons per year
-Renovate historic elements of theater lobby.

At The Theatre

Our History

The Theatre originally opened on November 26, 1921 as a cinema, primarily showing the then popular silent movies. The Seminole Theatre quickly became the place to go for entertainment and social gatherings in South Dade County and the upper Keys.
