Seminole Military Appreciation

May is Military Appreciation Month and the Historic Seminole Theatre in downtown Homestead is pleased to offer things to do for military veterans and the general public.

FB ImageOn May 21st, the Combat Hippies, a group of Military Veteran Performing Artists will present “Conscience Under Fire” on the Seminole Stage. “Conscience Under Fire” is an original Spoken Word Theater piece that ranges from powerful to humorous and features solos and group work. The group shares their military and Veteran experiences to raise awareness of veteran’s issues and promote Post-Traumatic Growth.

The Seminole Theatre has partnered with the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4127, and every Premium Ticket ($47) purchased for the Combat Hippies will sponsor a Military Veteran to see “Conscience Under Fire” and attend a talk-back after the show with the group. 

Led by world renowned theater artist and director Teo Castellanos and backed by one of Miami’s most well-known DJ’s, Brimstone 127, The Combat Hippies are a group of military veteran performing artists. The group’s core members consist of Hipolito “Beardman” Arriaga, Anthony “I.E.D.” Torres, Allen “Tatsel” Minor, and Andrew “Dru Phoenix” Cuthbert.

Brandy ClarkOn Memorial Day weekend, strap on your boots and come down to the Seminole Theatre for Country Night.  See headliner CMA and Grammy Nominated country singer Brandy Clark performing live. Brandy Clark’s first single from her new album, “Girl Next Door” was recently released and has made it to several Top 40 Country lists. Brandy Clark plays the historic Seminole Theatre Memorial Day Weekend, Saturday May 28th at 8:00pm.

Opening for Brandy Clark is country rock group Levon.

Congress designated May as National Military Appreciation Month in 1999 to ensure the nation was given the opportunity to publically demonstrate their appreciation for the sacrifices and successes made by our service members - past and present.

At The Theatre

Our History

The Theatre originally opened on November 26, 1921 as a cinema, primarily showing the then popular silent movies. The Seminole Theatre quickly became the place to go for entertainment and social gatherings in South Dade County and the upper Keys.
