It's a wet summer in 1912 New England, and The National Press has just announced a contest searching for "New England's Best Local Paper." The residents of Paperhaven flock to the streets in the hopes of landing the new Managing Editor position recently posted by their local paper, The Daily Telegraph (Run by the Publisher, Mr. Cheathem, and the Chief Editor Mr. Humphries).

When Ms. Victoria Allworth, a lifelong resident of  Paperhaven, lands the job, she struggles to find her place. But, with help from Momma All, she finds the voice Paperhaven needed her to have. As Newsies peddle their papers, the residents of Paperhaven are in awe of The Daily Telegraph's work, and they're not the only ones. Mr. Cheathem, Mr. Humphries, Ms. Allworth  and The Daily Telegraph win the contest! They are officially New England's Best Local Paper. The residents of Paperhaven rejoice and unite in triumph until the presence of the Representatives from The National Press dampen their spirits even more than the rain.

Will Mr. Cheathem and The Daily Telegraph preserve their status? Will Ms. Allworth be able to balance the pressures of her new position? And, will a fractured community find the strength to band together for the sake of their legacy?
