    The Seminole Theatre Players has announced auditions for the 2018 summer season.  Don't miss your opportunity to be part of thr largest live event in South Dade.  STP is calling auditions for roles in the production of In the Heights, the musical, and we want to see YOU in the show!  All experience levels are encouraged to audition.   There are three days of open calls - you only need to attend ONE day of open calls.  

    • Tuesday, March 20 7:00-10:00pm at the Seminole Theatre

    • Wednesday March 21 7:00-10:00pm at Lucky's Saloon for Karaoke Open Call 

    • Thursday, March 22 7:00-10:00pm at the Seminole Theatre

    After open calls, you may be invited back to callbacks on Saturday, March 24th and/or Sunday, March 25th at the Seminole Theatre from 2:00 - 6:00pm.

    Cast

    In the Heights is a diverse show set in Washington Heights, New York City, conceived by the creator of Hamilton.  Actors of all ages, race and body type are encouraged to audition.  Due to the nature of the show, some roles are specific to certain ethnicities and to respect the nature of the play, we will make best attempts to cast as such.  For a full breakdown of roles, please go HERE.  All roles are available.

    Cast Breakdown

    We are looking for both singers and dancers for this production.  Whether you consider yourself a dancer who can carry a tune or a singer who can move, we want to see you. Performers with strengths in Hip-Hop, Latin and Break Dances as well as rap or spoken word are especially encouraged to audition.  

    Audition Guidelines For open calls on Tuesday and Thursday:

    Singers who can move:

    Please prepare 16 measures of an upbeat song or ballad in your key. Choose a piece that you are comfortable with and one that shows off your strength. We will have an accompanist and sheet music is strongly encouraged..  First time picking an audition song?  Read this helpful article. and feel free to contact us if you need help with sheet music - we've got lots of it!

    Wear comfortable clothing as you will be asked to learn a short routine.

    If you're more comfortable singing Karaoke - come to Wednesday's open call at Lucky's Saloon, just down the street from the Seminole.  No sheet music is required, just bring yourself, your friends, and maybe pick up some liquid courage at the bar. 

    Dancers who can sing:

    Dancers should be prepared to learn a rmore complicated routine.  Wear dance clothes and shoes.  You may be asked to stay and sing.  A prepared song is preferred, otherwise a song will be given to you.

It’s a community on the brink of change, full of hopes, dreams and pressures, where the biggest struggles can be deciding which traditions you take with you, and which ones you leave behind.     Annie is the perfect family-friendly show set in 1930s New York City, and has become an international phenomenon.  This show will be implementing color blind casting and all ethnicities are encouraged to audition.  All roles are available.  This is a small breakdown of roles, and you can see the breakdown of all roles HERE .

    Adults:  Note, this is not a show with mostly kids in the cast.  The majority of the story and characters is for adults.  There are a variety of lead and ensemble roles for adults ranging in age from 16 to 65.  All are welcome.  

    Orphans:  Girls who look and act between the ages of 6-13.  We wish we could cast everyone who auditions, but unfortunately there is not room in the cast.  

    We are looking for both singers and dancers for this production, but everyone needs to do some of each.  Whether you consider yourself a dancer who can carry a tune or a singer who can move, we want to see you.

    We will see kids from 7:00-8:30pm and ask adults to come for the later slot of 8:30-10:00.

    Girls auditioning for Annie and Orphans

    All girls should be prepared to sing a short section of "Hard Knock Life" and to learn a short dance / movement routine.   Some may be asked to sing a section from "Tomorrow".

    With equal measures of pluck and positivity, little orphan Annie charms everyone's hearts despite a next-to-nothing start in 1930s New York City. She is determined to find the parents who abandoned her years ago on the doorstep of a New York City Orphanage that is run by the cruel, embittered Miss Hannigan. With the help of the other girls in the Orphanage, Annie escapes to the wondrous world of NYC. In adventure after fun-filled adventure, Annie foils Miss Hannigan's evil machinations... and even befriends President Franklin Delano Roosevelt! She finds a new home and family in billionaire, Oliver Warbucks, his personal secretary, Grace Farrell, and a lovable mutt named Sandy.

    Please prepare 16 measures of an upbeat song or ballad in your key. Choose a piece that you are comfortable with and one that shows off your strength. We will have an accompanist and sheet music is strongly encouraged.  First time picking an audition song?  Read this helpful article. and feel free to contact us if you need help with sheet music - we've got lots of it!

    Wear comfortable clothing as you will be asked to learn a short routine.

    If you're more comfortable singing Karaoke - come to Wednesday's open call at Lucky's Saloon, just down the street from the Seminole.  No sheet music is required, just bring yourself, your friends, and maybe pick up some liquid courage at the bar.  This is a sports bar - we do not ecnourage kids to come to this audition.

    The Friends of the Historic Seminole Theatre are proud to announce the formation of The Junior Players, a theater conservatory program providing training and performance opportunities for young people. Kids of ages 9-15 can now register for our spring production of Disney’s The Lion King Jr.

    Disney’s The Lion King has captivated the imagination of audiences around the world for 24 years. The African savannah comes to life on stage with Simba, Rafiki, and an unforgettable cast of characters as they journey from Pride Rock to the jungle… and back again, in this inspiring, coming-of-age tale based on the classic Disney film!

    In the Junior Players production, students will have the opportunity to take on one of the famous roles in the Lion King Jr. The students will rehearse every Saturday with our theatre professionals, learning acting, singing, choreography and stagecraft, and then perform the full show to the public on the Seminole Theatre mainstage.Annie Production Photo

    The rehearsals will be every Saturday, January 5 – March 30, 2019 froim 9:00am – 3:30pm at the Seminole Theatre. We also expect the students to be available every evening for tech rehearsals March 31-April 4th, and for the three performances April 5-7 (Friday and Saturday evenings, Sunday afternoon).

    No experience required! The Jr. Players are open to all who wish to be involved. Auditions will be held on the first rehearsal day, and parts will be assigned for the production. Not every student can play a lead role, but every student will be an integral part of a fun production and have a fantastic learning experience.

    The cost to participate is $250 per student. This covers the directors and instructors, plus any costumes, props or specialty makeup needed for the show (other than shoes and basic undergarments). This has fee has been greatly underwritten thanks to the Friends of the Historic Seminole Theatre. But the bargain is not what it seems, and Ariel needs the help of her colorful friends, Flounder the fish, Scuttle the seagull and Sebastian the crab to restore order under the sea.

At The Theatre

Our History

The Theatre originally opened on November 26, 1921 as a cinema, primarily showing the then popular silent movies. The Seminole Theatre quickly became the place to go for entertainment and social gatherings in South Dade County and the upper Keys.
