Does your child dream of taking center stage? Now is the time to make those dreams come true.

The Friends of the Historic Seminole Theatre are proud to announce the next production of The Junior Players, a theater conservatory program providing training and performance opportunities for young people. Kids of ages 8-15 can now register for our spring production of Disney’s Shrek the musical Jr.

Beauty is in the eye of the ogre in Shrek The Musical JR., based on the Oscar-winning DreamWorks Animation film and fantastic Broadway musical. It's a "big bright beautiful world" as everyone's favorite ogre, Shrek, leads a cast of fairytale misfits on an adventure to rescue a princess and find true acceptance. Part romance and part twisted fairy tale, Shrek JR. is an irreverently fun show with a powerful message for the whole family.

In the Junior Players production, students will have the opportunity to take on one of the famous roles in Shrek Jr.. The students will rehearse every Saturday with our theatre professionals, learning acting, singing, choreography and stagecraft, and then perform the full show to the public on the Seminole Theatre mainstage.

The rehearsals will be every Saturday, January 13 – April 4, 2024 froim 9:00am – 4:00pm at the Seminole Theatre. We also expect the students to be available every evening for tech rehearsals April 1-April 4th, and for the three performances April 5-7 (Friday and Saturday evenings, Sunday afternoon).

No experience required! The Jr. Players are open to all who wish to be involved. Auditions will be held on the first rehearsal day, and parts will be assigned for the production. Not every student can play a lead role, but every student will be an integral part of a fun production and have a fantastic learning experience.

The cost to participate is $350 per student. This covers the directors and instructors, plus any costumes, props or specialty makeup needed for the show (other than shoes and basic undergarments). This has fee has been greatly underwritten thanks to the Friends of the Historic Seminole Theatre. Lunch is not provided, students will need to bring lunches (a refrigerator and microwave are available).
