The Seminole Theatre Players are searching for production staff positions for the Junior Players production of Disney's Aladdin, Jr.

The Seminole Theatre Players (STP) are the resident theater group of the Seminole Theatre in Homestead. Started on 2017, STP has quickly gained a reputation of providing high quality theater in Homestead and South Dade while maintaining accessible pricing.  The Junior Players is a division of STP, devoted to providing theater experience for young people in the form of producing full musicals on the Seminole Theatre mainstage.  The Junior Players launched in 2019 with the production of The Lion King Jr and now plan to produce 2 productions per year.

The next production for the Junior Players is Disney's Aladdin Jr. will feature a cast of 40 elementary and early high school students playing all parts. All rehearsals (except tech week) will take place on Saturdays so it does not conflict with school activities. The Junior Players is searching for an artistic production staff to both teach and to lead the artistic integrity of the production:

Rehearsals will be every Saturday from 8:30am to 4:00pm, beginning August 31, 2019. It is required that staff be available for every rehearsal, tech and show, but some exceptions may be made.

First Rehearsal: August 31
Tech Week: November 17-21
Performances: November 22-24

These are contract jobs and payment is provided for each position listed below, dependent on the responsibilities and experience.

Director (POSITION FILLED) - Oversee all activities of the production by working with the Music Director, Choreographer, Stage Managers, and STP staff and volunteers to mount a production of Aladdin Jr. Responsible for the overall vision of the production, including blocking the scenes, designing the sets, lights and costumes, and overseeing the dance and musical numbers. Must be able to teach theater skills in a very short time to students who may have no prior experience.  Will also be responsbile for all production elements of the show, including managing the budget and production of the sets, costumes, props, and more,  

Assistant Director - Assist the Director in all aspects of production. Will be responsible for blocking scenes and overseeing production elements. Must be good with kids and teaching skills.  Will be required to help cover lunch breaks during rehearsals and to work backstage during performances.  

Choreographer - Responsible for all of the choreographic, dance, and movement elements of the production. The job of the choreographer is to evaluate the skills of the students and to provide choreography that will both challenge the student, but also ensure a possible final result that makes the production look great. The ability to teach fundamental theatrical dance techniques is paramount.  May be required to work backstage during tech week and performances for smooth operation of the show.

Music Director - Teach all the musical numbers of the show, including working with soloists and working with ensembles. Evaluate the skills of the performers and tailor the music to be both challenging and to produce a pleasing final result. Ability to accompany on piano is preferred. Will be needed to consult or run on any music cues for sound track of show.  May be required to work backstage or in tech booth during tech week and performances for smooth operation of the show.

Production Stage Manager - Oversee all aspects of the production including, but not limited to: Manage rehearsal schedule, take blocking notes, oversee production of sets, props and costumes, and call lighting and sound cues during show.  The stage manager will also work with director to make sure all production elements of the show (sets, costumes, props, lighting, sound) are understood and produced to completion.  The PSM may be responsible for overseeing set and costume construction, and will work with venue's lighting and sound designers to manage technical aspects of the show.  

Assistant Stage Manager - Work with PSM on all elements of the show. The ASM will specifically be responsible for all stage elements including set changes, costume changes, and props, as well as helping to run all rehearsals.  The ASM will be responsible for overseeing all activities backstage and recruiting and overseeing volunteers.  

Shop Foreman - The Shop Foreman is responsible for all technical elements of the show. Most specifically, the Shop Foreman will work in the shop to create all sets, as well as props and costumes that need to be built. The Shop Foreman will be responsible for working with the STP Production manager and scheduling volunteers for construction, sewing, and fabrication. Although the Shop Foreman's schedule can be somewhat flexible, it is expected that all production elements are complete before tech week and that the Foreman is available during tech week and performances for fixes, corrections and show run. The Shop Foreman may also work with students and run workshops on production elements during the rehearsal process.

Volunteers - We will need a host of other assistants and volunteers to make this possible. If you are interested in helping but not sure if you are not available or not yet ready for a full position, we're still happy to have your help!

Since this is a youth / educational theater, it is important that all staff be willing and able to work with children. Staff is expected to make the experience challenging, educational and (most importantly) FUN!

Our History

The Theatre originally opened on November 26, 1921 as a cinema, primarily showing the then popular silent movies. The Seminole Theatre quickly became the place to go for entertainment and social gatherings in South Dade County and the upper Keys.
